On Tuesday, July 28, join our team in commemorating the Deportation of the Acadians with a guided tour, followed by a ceremony at the Village chapel.

The tour, led by Village historian Philippe Basque, will begin at 1 p.m. at the Tracadie Founders’ Cemetery. Participants will then travel by car to the Inkerman Cemetery, followed by a stop at the Acadian Odyssey Monument at the Sainte-Anne-du-Bocage Sanctuary in Caraquet.

Cost to participate in the commemorative tour: Free

Finally, members of the community are invited to the Acadian Historical Village at 4 p.m. to take part in a procession, followed by a ceremony and a short reception in the presence of Senator René Cormier, Minister of Tourism, Heritage and Culture Isabelle Thériault, and Rivière-du-Nord Mayor Guy Thériault.

Admission to the historic site will be free as of 4 p.m.

Schedule of the day:

1:00 p.m. – Visit to the Tracadie Founders’ Cemetery, Saulnier-Est Street
1:30 p.m. – Departure from Tracadie for the Inkerman Cemetery, located near the Inkerman church
2:00 p.m. – Visit to the Inkerman Cemetery
2:20 p.m. – Departure for the Acadian Odyssey Monument, located in Caraquet
2:45 p.m. – Visit to the Sainte-Anne-du-Bocage Sanctuary and the Acadian Odyssey Monument in Caraquet
3:30 p.m. – Departure for the Acadian Historical Village
3:45 p.m. – Arrival at the Acadian Historical Village
4:00 p.m. – Group departure (procession) on foot to the historic site’s chapel
4:15 p.m. – Reading of the commemorative text by Senator René Cormier, followed by remarks from the Minister of Tourism, Heritage and Culture, Isabelle Thériault, and Rivière-du-Nord Mayor Guy Thériault
4:45 p.m. – Reception with traditional beverages and desserts at the Poirier Rest Stop


July 28 became the official Day of Commemoration of the Deportation of the Acadians through a royal proclamation by the Government of Canada in 2003.
